Almost everywhere you go in Rome has a story to tell, so if you take public transport between the main attractions you miss out the smaller sites. A walking tour is a great way to see other parts of the city, plus it's cheaper than a bus tour and boosts your fitness.

dealchecker's guide to Rome

Culture, history and architectural wonders await you in Italy's most famous city. Flights to Rome are cheap throughout the year and are operated by both scheduled and low cost airlines including British Airways, Easyjet and Ryanair. City breaks are particularly popular due to Rome's reasonably close proximity to the UK. Book a cheap flight to Rome in November, December or January for a weekend break or a spot of Christmas shopping. Rome Flights are available from most UK airports including London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.

What will you see when you get there? Whatever takes your fancy, the reality is the sites you won't get a chance to see will far outweigh those that you do because there is simply too much to see and do in Rome. Flights to the Eternal City will take you back in time to the birth of our modern civilisation. Stare in awe and wonder at the mighty Colosseum. Stop by the Vatican for a bit of spiritual enlightenment or sample the exquisite taste of a real latte ? Italian style, but don't be surprised by the bitter price!

The peak tourist season starts in Easter and extends through to October with the busiest times during June, July and August. It's during this peak period that flights to Rome will be abundant but not necessarily too cheap. Flights to Rome during the peak season as you would imagine are filled with tourists and as a result so is the city, tour buses, hotels and tourist attractions. Good news is though, local Romans head for the beaches during the summer so the traffic isn't too bad.

Book your flight to Rome and hotel separately for maximum flexibility and quite often a much better deal. If you save money on your Rome flights why not spend the money you saved on a much better hotel? dealchecker.co.uk also allows you to shop around for prices on hotels in Rome so don't miss out on a great hotel deal too.
