Lanzarote, like the rest of the Canaries is the product of a mass of volcanic activity and it's predominantly black rock surface is strewn with the remains of explosions and lava flows, while underneath lies a stunning array of sub-terranean caves and landforms.

Despite its volcanic origins Lanzarote does not lack in the beach department, in fact, far from it. The island is dotted with beautiful white and golden sandy beaches to rival any in the world. Papagayo in the south near Playa Blanca in particular is renowned as one of the finest, although beware if you are a sensitive soul, it's very popular with naturists.

Cheap Lanzarote flights are becoming more and more common as the price of scheduled services from carriers like British Airways and Iberia has dropped to compete with low cost and charter options. Flights to Lanzarote depart from most regional airports in the UK although the cheapest flights are most likely to depart from one of London's four airports or perhaps Manchester.
